I enjoy performing in stage plays, and a play was the scene of one of my failures. I’ve always been the last actor to memorize my lines in the script, being “on book” usually through the final rehearsals before the first performance. My lack of preparedness finally caught up to me while in mid-performance my recurring dream came true: I forgot my lines.

Topeka ? A 128 year-old Topeka flour mill is closing.

Horizon Milling announced it will close its Topeka facility on December 1, 2010.

Employees found out about the closing Friday.

The mill was built in 1882, and company officials said it can no longer efficiently compete without extensive and costly equipment upgrades.

Flour customers who currently get their supply from the Topeka mill will be supplied by other facilities.

The index measures the opinions of local professional venture capitalists and reports their estimation of the high-growth small business environment in the area. The latest Silicon Valley venture capitalist index surveyed 33 San Francisco area professionals in January of 2010, and the results are promising.

This quarter’s confidence registered a 3.48 on a 5-point scale (with 5 indicating the highest possible confidence). The index climbed up from 3.37 last quarter, which officials thinks suggests an upward trend for 2010.

Venture capitalists in the San Francisco area are reportedly gaining optimism as the macroeconomy stabilizes.
