I love it when my daughter scowls at me disapprovingly as I sing along to one of her latest pop tracks and know all the words, right down to the chorus. She’s disgusted, and that’s putting it mildly! She doesn’t realise that many of the songs produced today are cover tracks cleverly disguised behind modern rap beats and rehashed as ‘new’ pieces of work. It just goes to show that the old stuff still works. Equally amusing is the fun one has at the dreaded Karaoke nights in the local pub. Some of the voices on display are shockingly bad; fuelled on by too mmuch booze, the soldier on in waves of undeterred confidence.
Nothing beats some of the classic sounds of music’s history, 50′s, 60′s, 70′s, right up to today. We all associate our childhood with the records and music that we listened to at the time, and when you hear a song on the radio that reminds you of a particular time in your past, you’re transported back there with startling clarity, all the people, places and things you were doing at the time fondly remembered.
Going to a gig is one of life’s greatest pleasures. Hearing the songs that you associate with different periods of your life is brilliant. Thankfully, we tend to remember the good times and not the bad, such is the power of music. I remember one time being asked to dance to the classic ‘Stairway to Heaven’ by Led Zep, with the fattest boy in school, all 7 minutes and 59 seconds of it! I could barely get my arms around him, and the song seemed to go on forever and ever. I was mortified. But every time I hear that song now, a knowing grin appears on my face.
If you are in the process of arranging a party for a loved one, be it an anniversary or a birthday, the best way of sorting the entertainment is on the web via a good entertainment agency. I love the fact that you can actually purchase a tribute act or a band and put it in your shopping cart! Perhaps you might have to organise a charity function, a Christmas office party, or a wedding. If so, authentic and talented entertainers, who are good in their own right, can be hired over the web to perform or ‘mimic’ their idols – and boy do they do it well. Crooning ‘voice alikes’ such as Michael Bublé, and Frank Sinatra, plus some other ‘rat packers’, swing out in legendary precision as they recapture the favourite sounds of the 50′s and 60′s.
The range of tribute acts is quite staggering: There are hundreds of bands to hire that will play your favourite music whether it be in tribute to a specific artist or band, or the music style of a certain period. The choice is amazing. You can hire gospel choirs, swing, soul, jazz, and medieval bands, and even an incredible range of non music entertainers such as comedians, dancers, or magicians. Whatever you feel would suit the occasion best.
The rising popularity of the tribute act owes its success to the demand for the golden age of music and the atmosphere that it represented in its heyday. Its popularity is cemented in the fact that the musicians who honour bands such as the Beatles, Abba, or Elvis, are themselves gifted musicians in their own right, fuelled by an inherent love for the music that they probably grew up with.
Due to the progress of time, the celebration of golden oldies has now expanded every which way, and all genres are now covered. Tribute acts offer an opportunity to relive your memories and be transported back in time – back to the good old days! You’ll be dancing in the aisles in no time!
